File Extension Dwg

Files with a DWG extension indicate vector-based image data in either 2D or 3D. The DWG stands for “drawing” and was originally denoted in the Interact CAD (computer aided design) package developed in the 1970s and purchased by AutoDesk in the 1980s. It is the most widely used format for CAD drawings in existence. AutoDesk controls the DWG format. They license a read/write application to non-competitors for use in opening the files. It is closely related to the DXF format which is an ASCII or binary rendition of DWG. DXF, which stands for Drawing Exchange Format, was created by AutoDesk in 1982 in order for files created in AutoCAD to be opened by other programs.

I really do love FileCure because it's so easy to use - you don't have to be some kind of computer guru to get just what you need!

Plug and play? Not even close. I spent a lot of time trying to get my new, so-called 'plug and play' scanner to work. I was about ready to take it back. ParetoLogic FileCure got it working and saved me a needless trip (and gas!!) back to the store.

I have to admit I'm no computer geek. When something goes wrong, I usually have to call someone to fix it and it costs me a lot of money. When my printer wouldn't work, a friend of mine suggested I try ParetoLogic FileCure a try. I figured it was worth a shot because I was going to have to pay for a geek anyway. I was so happy when it worked... and worked properly!

I figured the graphics card my grandson gave me was broken when I couldn't get it work on my computer. It turns out that I just didn't have the right driver. ParetoLogic FileCure got it workin.

Hello FileCure folks:

I can't thank you enough for this great product. I just bought a new Vista machine and had been having all kinds of problems. First it was my screen and once I got that fixed it was the printer . Finally, my son suggested I try your product. It worked great and continues to keep my computer working. Thanks you.

I hate paying a lot of money for anything. That's why I buy mostly used computer equipment. Last week I thought I got taken when I bought a scanner. It just would not work. ParetoLogic Driver Cure got it working. With the updates, it makes sure my stuff will keep working and that I don't have to pay more money.

I work at a school so my mom thinks I am some kind of computer whiz. I have wasted so much time trying to get her stuff to work. Our IT guy suggested I try ParetoLogic FileCure. It has been a godsend and has saved me a lot of wasted hours. My mom and I can't thank you enough.

My wife bought me a new Vista system, and ever since I have had problems with some of my hardware. I saw FileCure, and decided to give it a shot. Ever since, the Vista and my hardware have been working great. Thanks!

I upgraded my system to Vista, and my printer started to act funny. No error messages, but it just wasn't working quite right. I read that drivers could sometimes be the problem. I looked online and saw FileCure. After downloading FileCure, my printer works great. You guys rock!

Other programs which will open DWG files are MSI TurboCAD, PowerDWG Translator, Microspot DWG Viewer, and SolidWorks eDrawings Viewer on the Macintosh platform. For Windows IMSI TurboCAD, SolidWorks eDrawings Viewer, ACD Systems Canvas, Corel Paint Shop Pro, IrfanView and DWG converters such as AutoDWG or Solid Converter DWG. The primary software for creating DWG files is Autodesk AutoCAD. Their licensed applications for viewing files are RealDWG or DWG TrueView.

More Info Regarding File Extension Dwg

AutoCAD Drawing and AutoCad Drawing Database files with DWG file extensions will have the AutoCan icon associated with them. The following programs also create DWG files: 2D Graphic, BravoDRAFT, Detailer , Drafix, Pro/ENGINEER, older generic CADD drawings and Mac File Type. These other formats can cause incorrect file association errors.

Because the format is so universal a number of attempts have been made to reverse engineer the format. This is the source of most of the problems one might encounter with DWG files. In 1998 AutoDesk added a digital watermark to files actually created by AutoCAD so that when a user attempted to open a DWG file they would know if it was an authentic AutoCAD file, or one that might cause problems when opened.

One reported problem is that files which will open properly by using the File / Open dialogue in AutoCAD software will not open if the file icon is double-clicked. This is usually a file association error, which can be fixed by restoring the DWG file association to AutoCAD. This is done through the Windows Explorer window under Tools / Folder Options / File Types. Select DWG and click Advanced. Choose Edit, browse for the correct AutoCAD exe file and enter “space %1" at the end of this string. Select OK to work your way out of these boxes.

In 2006 AutoDesk launched AutoCAD 2007. This version completely changed how 3D objects were handled. As companies upgraded to this version they discovered that many of the peripheral software products they had been using, particularly Steelhead WAN (Wide Area Network) accelerator, would no longer work with AutoCAD files. Two reported workarounds for this issue are to select an earlier version of DWG format when saving files, or to set the Incremental Save Percentage internally in AutoCAD to 50. Neither of these is an actual solution.

From the very beginning AutoCAD products have been plagued with poor documentation which made development of third-party software that worked with it difficult, often resulting in errors. In an attempt to be more open and willing to serve the industry AutoDesk now publishes on its web site the specifications for DXF files from AutoCAD 13 through AutoCAD 2009, due to be released in 2010.

Another problem encountered by DWG file users is due to changes made in 2000 and later versions of AutoCAD. In earlier versions, TIFF or TIF files could be inserted into DWG files. After 2000 the LZW compression used by TIFF files was no longer supported. To get around this save TIFF files with the LZW compression disabled.

AutoDesk has pledged to work more closely with the industry on AutoCAD 2009. Third-party software packages which work in conjunction with large industry-standard products such as AutoCAD are essential for efficient work and information delivery.
